Red Sand Ridge is located in Quantou Village, Henghe Town, Yangcheng County. With its continuous crimson peaks and vast stretches of red sand, the mountains appear blood-red in the sunlight, forming a unique red sandstone Danxia landform.

The Eighteen Arhats Peaks rise majestically in Quantou Village and are also known as “Pan Ting Liezhang.” Pan Ting is the ancient name for Henghe Village in Yangcheng County; “Pan Ting Liezhang” refers to a range of peaks arranged in a line. The mountain ridges stretch northward, soaring steeply into the sky. With their varied shapes, they stand in formation like a barrier of the Eighteen Arhats, earning them the local name “Eighteen Arhats Peaks.”

At the entrance to Quantou Village stands a striking mural bearing the inscription “The Eighteen Arhats Shake Kunlun.” It is said that Xicheng Mountain in Henghe is the legendary Kunlun Xu. Since both the Eighteen Arhats Peaks and Xicheng Mountain are located within Henghe Town, this gave rise to the legend of “The Eighteen Arhats Shake Kunlun.” The Qing Dynasty poet Yang Bopeng composed a poem in praise: “Where in these famous mountains may one find such wonders? Ridges stand in rows, winding and towering, their verdant peaks piled high. Count them, and they match the number of Arhats; gaze upon them, and they all resemble the peaks of old men.” (Photo by Zhang Shaoyi)
